The wanderings of a woman on her way

Tentative-Map-of-European-Wanderings-1000x1000

This map (click to enlarge) represents our tentative itinerary. We will travel by boat (blue), bike (black) and foot (red). We will stay in tents, hostels, hotels—even in a Parador in Léon Spain. We will eat when hungry, rest when weary, enjoy the local beer and wine, and strike up conversations with people we meet along the way.

For many people, it is difficult to understand our peregrination, especially since we have such a cavalier attitude towards our wanderings. Being unconstrained by time or schedule, we have the luxury to follow our hearts.

We have several adventures and towns that are must do/see; other than that, we will travel where the spirit takes us, our adventures directed by curiosity and whims.

    1. Phil,

Thanks for stopping by the blog and commenting.

I am now sitting in internet cafe in Funchal, Portugal. Two days from now, we will be in Barcelona and starting our adventure.

  2. Jane: This is the first chance I had to read your blog since earlier on I was preparing for five days in Miami Beach, then I had the five days in Miami Beach–and had a splendid time, and since my return on 4/23 I’ve been busy doing laundry, dishes, grocery shopping, email, snail mail, social engagements and everything else. This morning I caught up on after-trip chores–and now I’m starting other projects I need to get back to.

I read that you’ll be gone for five months. Am I correct? Unbelievable.

    1. Sonia,

You too are a marvel…I hope to have your energy and spirit when I am your age; you are in inspiration to many of us women in Sarasota.

  3. Hi Jane and Dennis,
Just read your blog. Very interesting but it sounds like you are looking forward to getting to the point where you only have to rely on your feet. I also just started my first blog so it will be very amateurish. It is at caminorick.blogspot.com I leave for Paris on Wednesday, the 15th, take a train to Le Puy on the 18th and begin my walk on the 20th. It still looks like I will be in Porto around June 4th and 5th. Safe travels and Buen Camino. Rick

    1. Rick,

Buen Camino…I bet you are getting excited.

I am holding off judgement on biking vs. walking. The first week is always hard. Let’s see how I feel next week. Am in Lleida at the Generalistat de Catalunya Agencia Catalana de la Joventut. They speak a different language/dialect in Lleida, which makes for interesting meals.
